I hear rumblings about introducing a licence to photographers. I would be instantly in favour of such a move if a licence number after their name would show that the Revenue Commissioners has them on record. And anyone doing nixers...

In 2008, to commemorate 50 years of the Irish Georgian Society, the Limerick Chapter of the Irish Georgian Society and Limerick City Gallery of Art commissioned four artists to take photographs of Georgian Limerick. This exhibition has now transferred to the Irish Architectural Archive in Merrion Square Dublin where it will open on Tuesday 9 February and run until Friday 12 March 2010.

To launch the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the Alliance Française in Dublin, a collection of acclaimed work by the important Irish artist Seán Hillen will be shown for the first time in Dublin since the 1990’s. Best known for his ‘Irelantis’ series, where competing myths and visions cohabit a deliciously witty montage, Hillen is one of the most significant artists of his generation. Hillen has also undertaken sculptural pieces, most recently the Omagh Bomb Memorial which has received both popular and critical acclaim.

Paul Treacy is a London based photographer who enjoys investigating new ways of presenting images. One of his projects was spotted by Corel Corp executive Tobie Openshaw and he contacted Paul to see if Corel could use components from his "Space Hoppers" short film to make a tutorial for their users. Sean from the Lightroom Blog tells me that LRB Portfolio has now been updated to version 2.51. This update has substantial under the hood changes to overcome the way Lightroom generates CSS. Now when you export (or Preview in Browser), LRB Portfolio creates a new CSS file from internal settings, but based on a template CSS file.

Liam Kidney, who runs Liam Kidney Photography in Athlone, Co. Westmeath was selected as the winner of the coveted Travel Photographer of the Year prize at the annual Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers’ awards function. Photographers all over the world took part in the event, and Mr Kidney admitted to being “absolutely amazed to be selected as the winner of the travel section.” He was selected for his stunning shot taken on Whitehaven Beach, the Whitsunday Islands, Australia.

THE COURTS Service, responsible for administrative matters in the judicial system, has defended new restrictions on the media’s ability to take photographs. Media photographs of convicted prisoners and others in custody may become a thing of the past as new procedures are implemented in the State’s courthouses.
